Who can resist the street urchin, Aladdin, when he falls in love with Princess Jasmine? Everyone is rooting for him and no one can blame her for falling for him. When Jafar, the advisor to the sultan, finds out about their friendship though, Aladdin is thrown into prison. Things get more complicated when Aladdin comes into possession of the lamp from the Cave of Wonders – the exact thing that Jafar has been after! None of that matters to Aladdin though. He just wants to marry the Princess who is only allowed to marry a Prince! Animation movies like this one keep kids’ attention for many years.

One of the best all time animation movies that is loved by all children is the original Shrek movie. Even though Shrek is an ogre that tries really hard to be mean and scary, he ends up making a lot of friends when he tries to save the people of fairytale land from Lord Farquaad. He and Donkey (as loud as they can be with Donkey’s constant yabbering) are determined to get the swamp that Shrek loves in back so that the fairytale people can go back to their home. They make a deal – Shrek rescues Princess Fiona on Lord Farquaad’s behalf and he gets his swam back. Good animation movies like this were meant to be enjoyed again and again.

The Little Mermaid is one of those movies that kids love and parents are happy to let them watch. Little girls want to be Ariel, the daughter of the King of the sea, King Triton. When she becomes unhappy with her life and starts looking to the land for happiness, King Triton is less than thrilled and will do anything to keep her away from those dangerous people. The Sea Witch, Ursula, has no problems in helping out Ariel though. She gives Ariel just what she needs to be able to join the land of the walking with – legs! But things don’t exactly go as planned for Ariel. Animation movies like The Little Mermaid are the kind of movies you can be glad to have on your shelf where your kids can reach it.

The English title of Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi is Spirited away and this is one many great foreign animation movies. This is the story of Chihiro and her family who discover an open air restaurant that smells of great food but there’s no one around. Chihiro feels like something is wrong so even when her folks sit down and start eating she does not. And with good reason – the restaurant is filled with spirits and her parents have literally turned into pigs! Chihiro must save her parents! With the help of a young boy named Haku, she gets a job nearby while she tries to figure out how to help them. Animation movies that are made in other countries expose your kids to a different culture and can be educational as well as entertaining.

Mary and Max is one of the good animation movies that are marketed towards adults, not children. It is not like there is loads of sex and violence in the movie but the subject is not one that many young children would be able to understand. Mary picks a name out of the phone books and sends the person a letter and chocolate when she is only 8 years old and very lonely. The recipient, Max, responds with another letter and more chocolate, as he is very lonely himself and spends more time in his apartment than out of it. Over the years, a friendship unlike any other develops. This is a story of friendship and understanding and relationships that anyone who loves good movies will adore.

This movie has great characters like Sulley, Mike, and the cute little girl named Boo. Boo sneaks into the Monster world by mistake one night and Mike and Sulley need to get her home before anyone finds out that she is there. There is no telling what Randall and Mr. Waternoose will do with her if they find her themselves! The characters are so likable (or in the case of Randall and Mr. Waternoose, unlikable) that you can’t help but love this movie. It is the story of Carl, an elderly man who is about to be sent to a retirement home because he accidentally hit a construction worker with his car. But before they can come and get him he remembers the promise he made to his friend Ellie. The promised each other that they would go to a Lost Land in South America together, but Ellie has since passed away. Instead, Carl ends up going with young, 8 year old Russell, who was unknowingly in Carl’s house when his house flies away. The Lion King is one of the classic animation movies that should be on every kid’s movie shelf. It is touching and sweet and filled with adventure and excitement all at the same time. WALL-E, doesn’t understand what has happened to his new friend, but true to his love, he protects her from wind, rain, and lightning…
